Applied Behavior Analysis Therapy


The TRIO Academy approach to help children with Autism and other developmental disorders incorporates the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis. Our skilled team of Technicians and Therapists use the principles of ABA in group and natural play settings.

  • Naturally occurring reinforcing consequences within structured peer groups strengthen social and imitative behavior.

  • Play-driven therapy creates opportunities to teach imitation, receptive and expressive communication, and social skills by following the child’s lead.

  • Principles of ABA within daily schedules facilitate generalization of skills to other environments, like home and school.

  • Effective coping skills and efficient communication taught in a supportive environment increases success in moments of stress. 

  • Variety of assessments and curricula establish a comprehensive and individualized Plan of Care

  • Comprehensive ABA therapy targets a wide range of skills such as imitation, play skills, communication, social skills, and daily living skills. Comprehensive ABA is typically appropriate for children aged 2 to 8 years old and can last two years or more depending on skills.

  • Focused ABA therapy targets a narrow scope of skill deficits typically in the areas of adaptive behavior, behavior reduction, functional alternative behavior, communication, and daily living skills. Focused ABA is typically appropriate for school-aged children and lasts one to two years.

Early Start Denver Model


“Developmentally based play balanced with teaching moments”

The Early Start Denver Model (developed by Sally Rogers, Ph.D. and Geraldine Dawson, Ph.D) is a comprehensive naturalistic developmental model that incorporates the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis to target a wide range of skill areas.

  • Focuses on building strong, positive relationships with adult caregivers in order to promote social development (Rogers & Dawson, 2010).

  • Aims to teach skills as naturally as possible, mirroring how they would be performed in a day-to-day context. 

  • Considers the child’s choice of activities and objects when creating learning opportunities rather than having adults pre-plan all learning activities.

  • Parents and family play a large role in establishing which goals they want their child to work on, and their opinions are valued when the therapist develops learning objectives.

  • Meaningful way to demonstrate how principles of ABA can be joined within a playful manner for the younger individuals on the spectrum

Diagnostic Services


A comprehensive and compassionate evaluation is the first step in receiving answers, education, and assistance. Our team of trained professionals will walk you through the diagnostic process.

  • In the initial parent interview, you share your child’s history and discuss the common characteristics of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Parents also complete rating scales and assessments.

  • During the fun, play-based child evaluation, our team and your child interact and play to further look at areas of strength and weakness within diagnostic tools. 

  • The diagnostic meeting provides the results of the evaluation based on the parent rating scales and child evaluation. Our clinician provides a comprehensive report, along with resources and “next steps”.

While You Wait

For parents who are questioning the skills and behaviors of their child, the wait for a diagnosis or to get started with therapy can be frustrating and difficult. We provide a series of one to three consultative appointments to give guidance, additional resources, and pointers to help “while you wait”

  • Tips to help prevent common behaviors like “meltdowns” or other challenging behaviors

  • Strategies to help with communication and coping skills

  • Parent resources to learn more about autism and therapies

Support Services


TRIO Academy offers several support services for children with Autism or other developmental disorders.

  • Daily living skills course focuses on teaching personal hygiene skills and other age-appropriate adaptive skills

  • Social skills class groups children or teens of similar age and skills and follows a curriculum to teach age-appropriate social skills within the interests of the group

  • Respite care in a one-on-one or group setting provides a safe and fun environment for children or teens
